Varun Saikia, a 12-year-old boy from Vadodara created a machine named ‘Makara’ that cleans and collects floating plastic waste in water bodies. A class eighth student from Navrachana School, Varun designed this battery-operated device that reduces labor-intensive work and is driven by a basic motor and a remote.
The current capacity can collect up to three kg of floating garbage at a time, and traps floating Styrofoam cups, plastic bottles, bags and dead floating insects. It can also be easily used to clean swimming pools too.
